Astrology is an ancient practice that has fascinated humans for millennia. Its roots can be traced back to the historical understanding of celestial movements and their influence on earthly events. Early civilizations observed the positions of the stars and planets and correlated them with human behavior, predicting destinies and fortunes. Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, contributed to the concept of the "music of the spheres," suggesting that celestial bodies emit harmonious vibrations, which influence the natural world and human psyche.
Cymatics, a scientific phenomenon, further supports the idea of vibrational influence. It explores how sound vibrations create distinct patterns in matter, revealing the profound relationship between sound and form. This concept aligns with the ancient belief that celestial bodies emit vibrational frequencies that resonate with living organisms, affecting their thoughts and behaviors.
In modern times, scientific evidence has shed light on the potential impact of the month of birth on one's personality. Some studies suggest a connection between birth season and certain personality traits. For instance, individuals born in certain months might display more extroverted or introverted tendencies, be more prone to certain health conditions, or exhibit particular cognitive abilities. While this research is intriguing, it's essential to recognize that astrological predictions based solely on birth month are not the same as the complex and multifaceted practice of astrology, which incorporates the positions of the planets and celestial bodies at the exact time of birth.
Modern or "new age" interpretations and practices of astrology often diverge significantly from the ancient astrological methods and profound cosmology of the past. In ancient times, astrology was considered a sacred science deeply intertwined with cosmology, spirituality, and the understanding of the universe's underlying order. It was used to discern patterns and cycles in nature and human life, offering guidance and insight into the interconnectedness of all things.
However, in modern times, astrology has become more commodified and simplified, with a focus on individual horoscopes and sun sign interpretations. This reductionist approach tends to oversimplify the complexities of a person's astrological makeup, focusing only on their sun sign while neglecting the significance of other celestial bodies and their intricate relationships.
Moreover, modern astrology often emphasizes predictions and generalizations rather than empowering individuals to take responsibility for their actions and choices. Ancient astrological practices recognized that astrology could be a tool for self-awareness and personal growth, urging individuals to cultivate their virtues, align with higher principles, and make conscious decisions in harmony with cosmic cycles.
The depth of ancient astrological methods, which included intricate calculations, observation of celestial movements, and extensive knowledge of celestial bodies and their mythological associations, has been somewhat lost in the New Age interpretations. Additionally, some modern interpretations blend astrology with other ideas and practices, creating a hodgepodge of beliefs that may not align with the original intent of astrology.
Much of the corruption of ancient astrological methods lies in the oversimplification, commodification, and misinterpretation of a profound spiritual and cosmological system. While modern astrology can offer some insights and entertainment, it's essential to acknowledge the difference between the deeper wisdom of the past and the contemporary consumer-driven approach to astrology. For those seeking a more profound and meaningful understanding of astrology, exploring its historical roots and connecting with its original purpose can lead to a more enriching and transformative experience.
•Astrology explores the meaningful connection between mankind and the wider cosmos, the relationship between the movements of the planets and the inner world of human consciousness and motivation.
•One of the main benefits in studying astrology is perhaps the personal growth that can arise through fully appreciating the interaction of your own psyche with cosmic factors.
"Man know thyself and thou shalt know the gods."•- Ancient Egyptian Proverb
•The ancient mystery schools knew it. The Greeks knew it (most likely from the Ancient Egyptians and maybe even before that.) Major Greek philosophers, most notably Pythagoras and Plato, knew it (who both just happened to have studied at the mystery schools.) Even at the entrance to the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, which was the center of the ancient world, were the words ‘Know Thyself’. And of course the Gnostics and initiates of today know it.
•This is precisely the wisdom that astrology can bring, when it is studied with dedication and continual self-reflection.
