Ancient Magic
The practice of magic is as old as the beginning of civilization itself. Supernatural powers and cultivating the relationship with these forces through ritual and sacred acts that align one with cosmic influences which can alter the human condition can be found in almost every primitive society -- and these are the archaic roots to the many modern traditions of both religious and magical practices that we can find today.
Although many of these ancient practices are lost to the sands of time, we can still find the existing wisdom in various traditions the world over. However, the concept of magic is nowadays deluded and corrupted and the understanding of its function and practice severely misguided or completely misinterpreted altogether.
What Magic is NOT
The popular opinion of magic is one that does not accurately depict how real magic works. When the majority of people hear the word magic, the term conjures up ideas of fantasy, stage tricks, illusions and hocus pocus, things that have no actual basis in reality. Centuries of fundamentalist religious repression leading to superstitions, misconceptions, and associations with evil, along with Grand Hollywood notions have corrupted the popular view of magic. Associations with witches flying on broomsticks, materializing objects out of thin air, blasting inexplicable forces from one’s fingertips, all seem to suggest that magic is something that can supersede and overcome the natural laws of the universe.
Magic as an Ancient Science
Yet these associations are not accurate and cannot be applied to how actual magic operates. To the ancients, magic was as real of a science as modern chemistry or physics is to us today. They knew that one could not overpower the energies and forces of the cosmos on their own accord, so they sought to understand these very energies, forces, and cycles, to align oneself with these, cultivate relationships with them, and use them in harmony with the universe.
A Word of Caution
The secret teachings of magic have been kept secret for a reason, specifically for the initiated. However, in this day and age with the abundance of magic and sorcery and everything in between being practiced by and on the masses unconsciously, I feel this information is necessary to share with the public. The heart must be pure to wield such powers constructively, and this is why years of purification and discipline were necessary requirements to even be considered as a candidate before being initiated in the ancient mystery traditions on the past. There are real living powers, spirits and intelligences associated with the creative and cosmic forces so when calling upon their influences within oneself in practice or in ritual, its important to truly know what ones doing or there can be dire consequences. There is always an energy exchange that takes place and if one is not aware, unconscious contracts may be made that are soul-binding. This is why its important to be initiated into an authentic *living* tradition or even more importantly, to have an inner initiation in the heart that connects one directly to the higher forces of the divine.
The popular shortcuts found in left-hand paths or prematurely playing with these forces by learning mere intellectual knowledge of esoteric and occult traditions will not get one into the heights of the heavens.
